Intersections: a public symposium about youth violence, masculinity and mental health
We were in Sheffield, where we joined The University of Sheffield, Unity Gym Project, Sheffield Flourish and Magic Magid - the former Mayor of Sheffield, to discuss serious youth violence, masculinity and mental health.
We were honoured that our Director, Temi Mwale, was invited to deliver the keynote speech, in which she discussed how poverty, inequality and institutional racism are systemic issues which generate violence in our communities. In order to build peace and reduce serious youth violence, we must address these structural issues whilst focusing our efforts on health centred approaches which aim to heal our communities.
It was great to learn about the fantastic work of grassroots organisations, like Unity Gym, working with young people affected by violence in Sheffield. We believe that by building stronger partnerships with grassroots organisations across the UK, we can strengthen our peace-building initiatives!
