The 4Front Project is a member-led youth organisation empowering young people and communities
to fight for justice, peace and freedom.
We support members with experiences of violence
and the criminal justice system to create change;
in their own lives, communities and society.
people are in prisons and YOIs in England & Wales. This is the highest per capita prison population in Western Europe.
of young people in custody in England & Wales are Black (Mar 19). This percentage has more than doubled since March 2006.
people have died in police custody or following
in England & Wales since
of child homicide
victims in England & Wales are Black. Therefore, the risk of homicide for Black children is disproportionate.
Racial inequity drives violence.
The criminal justice system drives violence. Unaccountability drives violence.
We are building a powerful youth-led movement to transform the way peace and justice are understood by centring healing rather than punishment.
Young people with experiences of violence and the criminal justice system require holistic support to thrive. We have pioneered a unique approach that empowers those most directly harmed by violence and the criminal justice system to be at the forefront of a grassroots movement for change.
Our work centres transformative justice and healing whilst directly challenging the UK’s addiction to criminalisation, policing and prisons. We are transforming the way in which society understands how to support communities affected by violence and shaping the agenda around how to address the systemic causes of it.
POLICE ABUSE OF POWER LEAVES THE 4FRONT PROJECT WITH NO OPTION BUT LEGAL ACTION
On 15 Jun 2020, we commenced legal action against the Metropolitan Police. When we believe members of our team have been treated unlawfully by the police, we will seek legal advice and take legal action where necessary. The actions of the police on 12 April 2020, and their treatment of Kusai Rahal, Head of Community Support at The 4Front Project, was completely unacceptable, and left us with no choice but to take legal action. It is vital to us that we send a clear message to our team and to the young people that we support, that we have a legal team ready to take action when their human rights are abused. The 4Front Project is appalled by the daily abuse, violence and harm inflicted specifically on young Black people by the police. The campaign by police to criminalise young Black people is so robust that all those in proximity to them are subjected to maltreatment and criminalisation.
